Tilda Coin Quilt

Another finish! This is made with a Tilda "jelly roll", and a cream fabric, with the same cream used for the backing. I had another pack of Tilda fabrics (one eighths?), and had just enough of the pink flower fabric for the binding. 

I stitched in the ditch down the sides of the coin strips, then used the curvy stitch along the adjoining seams on each of the coins, and set the curvy stitch as large as possible and quilted down the length of the cream strips, and all around the border strips.

Could have been neater and smoother, but I don't have a surface I can put everything on to lay out the sandwich! 

Not quite large enough for a double bed, but it's the largest quilt I've made so far. The "design" is all mine, I just made it up as I went along. 

 

Weird, but I'd looked through the pack of fabrics a couple of times and didn't think I had anything to go with the fabrics from the 2.5" strips ... and then I looked again and three of the fabrics were ones I'd used in the quilt, but in different colours. This pink fabric is the one I had most of, and I think it looks really pretty next to the cream border. I kept thinking of strawberry and vanilla ice cream all the time (two days!) I was hand stitching the back of the binding 😊 And, because it's from the same fabric collection the colours of the binding fabric match the colours in a couple of the other fabrics.

Rose Cuff Pincushion

I actually finished this pincushion on 28 September, but didn't have Velcro. I received some in the post today, and I can finally use it! It's made from a pattern I bought on Etsy.

 

Pinwheels Quilt

One of my English Paper Pieced quilts. I started it 7 years ago and finished it today (16 October 2020). I spent HOURS yesterday, stitching in the ditch, in two directions and so ended up with a square grid on the back.

 

Armchair Sewing Caddy

This is one of the projects which has been on my To Do List for many years, and I finally made it this week. I wasn't happy with the stitchery on the first day - particularly the lazy daisies, and was thinking about either re-starting, or even substituting the embrodiery for cross stitch, but I changed my mind the next morning and finished it, and I'm glad I did. I realised later that, because I'd transferred the design by iron-on pencil, the designs were actually the wrong way round ... but all I had to do was to lengthen the flower stalks so the bottoms were hidden under the dotty pocket borders! This was a free from pattern the Hugs n Kisses blog.

 

Two More Jelly Roll Jams ...

So, I made two more of the Jelly Roll Jam quilts, one for Mum and one for Angelique ... only they couldn't decide which one they wanted so we had a raffle! The top one is Ang's, the bottom one Mum's. 

EPP Caddy

Another project finished! I started this bag in 2009, and didn't get round to finishing if, because I didn't understand the instructions on how to attach the handles and binding. But it's amazing what a few years and a little bit of experience can do! I got it out a couple of weeks ago, and on Saturday, as the two handles were already sewn up, and I had the fabric strips to make the binding, I thought I'd have a go and see if I could finish it - and I did! 

The English Paper Pieced flowers are appliqued on. There are four flowers on each side of the bag, and I tried to be as "scrappy" as I could with the fabrics. 

This is the inside of the bag, and it has two Velcroed pockets and the pink fabric in the middle of the bag is felt, to use to park pins and needles.

Design Board

 

Made this portable design board tonight (a la Lori Holt), from a square of foamboard, wadding and bias binding. I want to make a couple of larger ones, but I thought I'd give it a try and use an A4 sheet of foamboard I had, before I buy a larger piece of foamboard. These make it easier to take pieces of fabric to the sewing machine - the fabric sticks to the wadding. It's 20cm square.
